What is auction fantasy football?
Auction fantasy football is a season-long game in which managers buy unique players at an auction. Every manager starts with the same imaginary budget. The highest bidder buys the player, so the league creates its own prices and no two squads can include the same footballer.
The format in one minute
Auction League uses Premier League players. Each manager starts auction night with £100m. New leagues default to 14-player squads; the organiser can choose 13 to 16 before season preparation. The money is an imaginary team budget, not a stake.
One manager names a player and the room bids. The highest bidder owns that player. The process continues until each squad is complete. Managers then select teams, score points and change their squads during the season.
Why the auction changes the game
A fixed price list does not decide whether a player is good value. Your group decides. Spending £45m on one forward leaves £55m for the rest of your squad. Passing on that forward preserves your budget but gives a rival the player.
- Every manager can bid for every available player.
- Every player has one owner at a time.
- Every purchase has a cost chosen by your own league.
- The auction creates a shared event before the season starts.
Evidence from our founding league
Auction League comes from the Thame Lads League, which has held auctions for more than ten years. Its recorded 2025/26 winning bids include six examples on our home page. We publish them as historical evidence, not suggested prices.
