Auction fantasy football compared with FPL

FPL uses fixed player prices and allows many managers to own the same player. Auction fantasy football gives each private league one shared market. Managers start with equal budgets, bid against one another and create unique squads. The formats reward different decisions, and you can play both.

Choose from the task your group wants to do

Ask whether your group wants individual entry in the official mass-participation game or a shared player market and an auction event. You can keep an FPL team while running a separate private auction league. The extra organiser work is part of the decision, not a hidden cost.

The main differences

FPL asks which players offer the best value against an official price list. Auction League asks what each player is worth inside your group. In FPL, popular players can appear in many squads. In Auction League, buying a player prevents every rival from owning him.

  • FPL has official prices. Auction League prices come from your bids.
  • FPL permits shared ownership. Auction League has one owner per player.
  • FPL starts online. Auction League starts with a group auction.
  • Both formats still depend on real Premier League results and include football luck.

Which format suits your group?

Choose an auction if your group wants unique squads, direct competition for players and a pre-season event. Choose FPL if you want the official mass-participation game and individual entry without organising an auction. Keeping an FPL team while running an auction league is a valid choice.

Our view

We prefer auction because every manager gets the same access to the player pool and every opinion has a budget cost. That is a product belief, not proof that FPL has no skill or value.
