How to judge a player swap in an auction league
Judge the change to each squad rather than comparing the two players in isolation. A useful swap solves a problem for both managers. Check the legal team you can select afterwards, the risk you are taking and the alternative of keeping what you have.
Find a real reason for the other manager to agree
Start with their squad. If they need a defender and you offer another midfielder, a long message about value will not fix the mismatch. A useful offer explains what improves for them and what improves for you.
You do not need identical opinions about the players. One manager may prefer secure minutes while another can carry an uncertain role. That difference can make an honest trade possible. Hiding a known injury or describing a rumour as confirmed does not improve the offer.
Compare the selection before and after
Consider an invented one-for-one exchange between a midfielder and a defender. Both squads must still have enough players for a legal XI, and the club limits still apply. The positional difference is a reason to inspect the whole team, not an automatic reason to accept or reject.
| Check | Your side | Other manager's side |
|---|---|---|
| What leaves? | A midfielder who rarely makes your chosen XI | A defender they can cover |
| What improves? | A defensive selection you currently struggle to fill | An additional usable midfield option |
| What could go wrong? | Too few midfield options after another absence | A club-limit breach or a defender injury |
Leave the auction price out of the first pass
An expensive purchase can lose his role. A cheap purchase can become important. Compare the expected future use before looking at what each manager paid. Historical prices help explain why an owner is reluctant to trade, but they do not settle what the squad needs now.
Ask whether you would make the same exchange if you had inherited both players at no cost. If the answer changes only because you want to recover an old auction mistake, pause and recheck the football case.
Acceptance is followed by an approval check
Auction League uses a proposal, acceptance and organiser approval process. Each team gives and receives the same number of players. Both managers agreeing does not make an illegal resulting squad valid.
A player cannot move while his match is in progress. Do not promise a transfer will take effect before the next selection deadline until it has completed. After completion, review your future team choices, particularly if the incoming player fills a different position.
Make one clear offer
State the players, why the move fits both teams and which uncertainty matters. Give the other manager space to decline. Repeating a rejected offer with a more flattering description of your player rarely changes the underlying choice.
Common questions
Can I trade two players for one?
Auction League requires each team to give and receive the same number of players. Do not plan an unequal exchange.
Does a swap happen as soon as the other manager accepts?
No. Organiser approval and the current squad and match-state checks still apply before the move completes.
