Run a remote fantasy football auction: bids, pauses and sale records

Use one call, one master sale record and one auctioneer. Agree how bids are accepted and what happens when somebody loses connection before the first real player is offered. Test a complete sale and a connection failure. Auction League does not provide a live online bidding room: your group runs the auction, then hands over the agreed squads and prices.

How do you run an auction when managers join remotely?

Give every manager the call link and read-only view of the sale record before the day. Check that the remote group can hear the auctioneer, not only the people beside a laptop. An organiser who can hear both groups is better placed to notice a missing bidder than somebody concentrating only on purchases.

Choose one authority for bids

Voice works when every bid can be heard. Require the manager to say the amount. The auctioneer repeats the bidder and price before closing the lot. Agree the closing words and a practical pause for replies. These are proposed house rules, not software features or a universal auction standard.

If chat is the fallback, decide whether the displayed message order is final. Do not silently switch between voice and chat mid-lot. A remote message that arrives after the closing call can create a dispute even when the bidder believes it was sent first. The group needs one rule, visible before bidding.

Rehearse a dropped connection

Use two fictional practice lots. In the first, test nomination, bidding, closing and recording. In the second, have one manager leave the call briefly. Check that the auctioneer notices, pauses and reads back the current lot and price on return. Delete the practice rows before the real auction.

Suppose Red is leading at £8m when Blue disconnects. Under an agreed pause rule, keep the current lot open, reconnect Blue, repeat £8m to Red and resume. If reconnection fails, use the group's pre-agreed absence rule. Do not invent permission for a proxy to spend Blue's budget during the dispute. If a sale was already closed before the fault was reported, use the agreed final-sale rule rather than rewrite an outcome for one manager.

Keep a visible sale record

After each completed sale, the recorder adds player, buyer and price and updates the buyer's money and empty places. The auctioneer confirms the new balance when practical. If the recorder needs time, pause nominations. Fast bidding is little help when the record falls several sales behind.

Take breaks the group has agreed. Leave the current sale record on screen so managers can check their own entries. At the end, read complete squads and totals, check duplicate players, budget and squad rules, and save the final record. Only then prepare the supported product import.

For a group that wants timed bids inside a dedicated online auction room, compare providers that offer that feature. A video call and manual record serve a different workflow. Start with the rules template and spreadsheet handover.

Common questions

Should remote managers edit the sale record?

Usually one recorder edits while everyone views. Agree how corrections are confirmed before bidding.

Can a proxy bid for an absent manager?

Only if your group has agreed the authority and limits before the auction. Fantasy Auction does not provide a live online bidding room or a proxy-bidding feature.
