Fantasy football auction rules template for your league

A good auction rules template gives your group the decisions it needs before money starts moving. Confirm the player pool, squad format, budget, bidding process, sale record and season workflow. Keep it short enough that every manager reads it, then settle exceptions before the first player is named.

Copy this agenda into the group chat

Start with one message that every manager can find. It should name the auction date and venue, who is playing, the player pool, budget, squad shape and how the auction works. Add the person who calls bids and the person who records each sale.

Ask every manager to acknowledge the rules before the auction. A thumbs-up is enough for most groups. The point is not to make the league formal. It is to stop somebody discovering a rule only after they have bought a player.

Keep the auction rules concrete

Decide who nominates first and how the turn passes. Decide whether the nominator must make an opening bid. State the minimum bid and the allowed increments. State exactly what the auctioneer says when a sale is final. A room full of friends can use any fair version, but it needs one version on the day.

Choose a visible shared record. After every sale, write the player, winning manager and price. Update the manager's remaining budget and empty places. If a manager cannot complete a legal squad at the minimum price, pause and fix the record before the next nomination.

Separate house traditions from the football rules

Food, fines, forfeits and a five-a-side game can make the day better. Put them under a separate heading. Participation should be voluntary and any shared money needs a visible record. A joke should never decide a football result or pressure somebody who does not want to join in.

After the auction, the organiser enters or imports the agreed squads and prices into Auction League. The group still owns its pre-auction rules. The app remains the authority for the league it creates, including the current selection, bid and swap workflow.

Common questions

Do we need a written auction rules template?

A short shared message is enough. The important part is that everyone sees the same rules before bidding, especially the squad requirements, sale process and attendance arrangement.

Can we change the rules during auction day?

Avoid it. Only change a rule when the whole group agrees and record the change before the next affected sale. Do not change a rule to rescue or punish one manager's purchase.

Does Auction League run our live auction?

No. Your group runs the live auction. The organiser enters or imports the completed squads and prices afterwards.
